Soelden is the largest community of Austria in terms of area, and sustains also Hochsoelden, Gurgl, Heiligkreuz, Vent and Zwieselstein. By the construction of refuges and lanes, the area was developed for tourism, the real upgrading for winter sports area started with the construction of the first lifts in 1948. Today tourism, and mainly winter tourism, is one of the most important commercial sectors, in which also summer tourism became more and more important during the last years.
