Timmelsjoch Road

Anyone who drives the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road, the highest pass in the Eastern Alps, can enjoy the majestic Ötztal Alps and a masterpiece of road construction in perfect harmony.

The pass road winds its way up to 2474 meters in more than 60 irresistibly designed curves and is an insider tip for convertibles, motorcycles or mountain bikes. Spectacular viewpoints, crystal-clear streams and steep rock faces accompany you from the Tyrolean Ötztal to South Tyrol. The 60 km drive from Obergurgl to the spa town of Merano only takes a good 1 1/2 hours.

The High Alpine Road is only passable in the summer months, usually between the end of May and October. The reason for the long winter break is the inhospitable weather in the high mountains with snow depths of up to 10 meters. In addition to the winter closure, the toll road is also closed in summer between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m.
